Goal: Publish Research Work in Academic Conferences

Goal: Publish Research Work in Academic Conferences

How does this goal fit?

In addition to being in line with my goal of maximizing my current skill set, participating in the academic community via submitting my work to academic conferences and having it accepted is something I have experience with, and I hope to reach this level with my work once more. The environment and opportunities that come with attending academic conferences and presenting my work represent a clear fit with my career goals.

Considering the type of projects I am generally involved with and suited to work on, the conferences I am most interested in targeting over the next two years include, but are not limited to:

  • CHI: One of the largest-scale academic conferences related to my field of study, covers human-computer interaction topics.
  • TEI: Highly-relevant conference on tangible, embedded and embodied interaction design.
  • DIS: Concerns design and research on interactive systems.
  • C&C: Highly multi-disciplinary conference on creativity and cognition.
  • UAHCI: Diverse conference oriented around universal accessibility in human-computer interaction topics.
  • DUXU: User experience design conference with diverse topic and industry representation.

What activities will progress me towards this goal?

What resource(s) will I need to achieve this goal?

This is a goal for which relationship building and mentorship under experienced and knowledgeable advisors throughout my handling of projects will be key. While I have had success in submitting research papers to academic conferences relatively independently in the past, I cannot assume that I will continue to have that success, nor should I overlook the opportunity to approach this goal taking full advantage of the resources available to me by being a Master’s student at OCAD.
