My MRP research study is one of the most central of all goals to my overall objective. Through this pursuit, I have the freedom to produce research work that most represents who I am as a design researcher, what areas of study I am most interested in, and what skills I am able to offer for opportunities going forward. All of these factors play into determining the next step(s) of my career, and present possible directions in and of themselves.
Many of the specific details of how my research design will be completed are not yet known, however, I can speculate that there will be a significant degree of physical and digital prototyping that will require physical materials and access to various kinds of software (3D modelling, electronics, microcontrollers, actuators, AR/XR/VR interface design tools, data visualization software, interactive digital prototyping software such as Adobe XD or Figma, etc).
Additionally, I will very likely need access to lab space at OCAD or partner organizations in which to build the necessary materials, and to host co-design sessions.
Finally, the importance of effectively building a network and communicating with others to facilitate mutually beneficial exchanges of information and recommendations is emphasized once more. It is not practical to expect success in these pursuits without the input and expertise of peers, advisors and partners with a stake in the project.
As the research design becomes more specific, the resources needed will shift to accommodate those needs.
