Action: Contact CNIB and Other Recommended Organizations and Discuss MRP

The parameters of my intended MRP will necessitate that I contact individuals who are blind or have low vision as potential participants, or perhaps entire organizations who may be interested in a partnership around the project I intend to deliver, whose members include visually impaired individuals who fit as participants in the study.

Further, since I intend to conduct co-design sessions and ethnographic research involving visually impaired participants, fostering an equal, amicable relationship and building trust with them is essential. To accomplish this, I must expand my academic and professional network and take on recommendations for who to contact, and in what capacity to involve them in the project, in addition to contacts that I can reach independently.

What will I do to achieve this?

  • Communicate my plans for my MRP to individuals in my network, find opportunities to reach potential participants or get recommendations on who to contact
  • Spend time with potential participants and / or members of recommended organizations on communicating my intentions for an MRP and what role they may play in collaboratively conducting the research and design processes

Which goals will this action help me accomplish?

What resource(s) will I need to be successful?

  • Expanded academic and professional network
  • Partner organizations willing to work together on the project (if possible)
  • Simple questionnaire to aid in communicating details of the project and ask about interest in participating (potential need for REB approval)
  • Available time to schedule meetings that fit into potential participants’ schedules (for purpose of discussing the project in advance of finalizing the plans for the research design, need input on this prior)
